“Thanks, perfect, exactly what I was hoping for.”

“Thanks for your excellent work and advice.”

“You did a great job.”

As a native English speaker with a first-class academic background, I offer high-quality language solutions grounded in real expertise.

I work with a wide range of organisations and individuals, from top publishers in the Netherlands to academic researchers, NGOs, museums and private companies. I have translated and edited dozens of books on diverse subjects: from art history to international politics, and from the ancient world to contemporary ethics.

Translation

Many factors make a good translation: finding the right word is essential, but so is finding the right tone and flow. The differences between a text that reads like a translation and one that reads smoothly can be subtle, but they matter.

I translate from Dutch into English, specialising in international relations, history, development studies, social science and politics. I am the translator of a dozen or so books on history, social science, international politics, anthropology and more (see About). I also translate more general texts, from annual reports and corporate websites to more creative and literary assignments.

Editing

Good writing matters. A well-written text can make all the difference: whether it’s a question of presenting the facts clearly, producing a persuasive argument, or making an excellent first impression. I work with a range of clients to raise the level and impact of their texts. Services range from proofreading (catching typos and errors) to more substantive language and stylistic editing.

I am a member of the Dutch translators' and interpreters' association (NGTV) and SENSE, the Society of English Native-Speaking Editors in the Netherlands.
